Artist Statement
Felipe Colmenares Betancourt
My work explores the evolving identity of Latin American culture, examining the dialogue between past and present, tradition and modernity, personal experience and collective struggle. Through painting, I seek to interpret the landscapes, traditions, cultures, and challenges that continue to shape our continent.

Having lived in five countries across the Americas, I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact of violence, displacement, and sociopolitical change. These experiences inform an artistic practice committed to raising awareness of urgent issues ranging from social justice to environmental sustainability.

Drawing on symbolism and elements of magical realism, my work invites an immersive relationship between viewer and artwork. Each project functions as both a personal testimony and a reflection on the intersections of identity, culture, and social transformation.

I work across a wide range of materials—including acrylic, oil, ink, spray paint, papier-mâché, clay, wood, and found objects—to create pieces that are both visually striking and conceptually provocative, fostering dialogue on both personal and collective levels.
